🎣 CATFISH AWARENESS DAY 🎣 - HOW DO CATFISH GET THE PHOTOS AND VIDEOS THOUGH?
They steal them!
Social media means they have an enormous pool of resources! Especially models like myself who have open, public social media accounts and these con artists just save the photos and videos to use themselves.
My Twitter goes back many many years, and they often use the older photos from it which I haven’t added a watermark or copyright tag to (I use © hannahclaydon.com to all my recent stuff for this reason). When I started on social media, catfish weren’t a big thing, though I wish I’d marked all my pics and videos. It’s pretty obvious when a photo isn’t recent though.
They tend to favour ‘selfie’ style photos as they look note ‘realistic’ sometimes than a more professional model photo.
⚠️ Also note: catfish don’t always use models as their fake profiles - most people nowadays use social media, and so catfish often just find random, attractive people to impersonate, because ‘normal’ people have lots of selfie style, normal pics and videos that they can steal in order to look more genuine. And ‘ordinary’ people are perhaps less likely to notice the catfishing than us professional models.
