There is great power in knowing exacly what your playmate wants, what they desire, what they fear. Even the thoughts in their head is fueled by how I choose to make them squirm. It's not about the theatrics of heavy gear restrainments, masks, whips, a room lit creating the right atmosphere, it's about how to get your playmate in that right mind space. All the rest is an added bones, simply adding to that mindset I want them to be in.
