I have a very strong aerophobia and fear of enclosed spaces. At first it was as a simple fear of heights, but then panic attacks started to happen 🥲 Losing control is very scary, not knowing how to deal with it is very scary. My main fear is the fear of panic attacks ⚠️ I have been working with a psychologist for a long time in this direction, about two years. They explained my fear to me, taught me different techniques that help me not to lose control when I realize that I am starting to have a panic attack. For example, if I am not flying alone, I take a person's hand - I focus on tactile sensations 🫶; I drink hot tea in moments of turbulence and turn on the flight state screen - strong tactile sensations from the hot drink 🍵 in my hands and when I drink it + a feeling of pseudo-control; watching 💪 Harry Potter 🪄 movies has become a ritual for me - the familiar story and pleasant images also help me. All together these techniques work, but the longer the flight time (longer than 6 hours), the harder it is to maintain control over my fear and I have to take strong sedatives. Even so, I never eat or sleep on airplanes - too anxious 😅 I can't say I've completely conquered my fear, but I've learned how to manage it and continue to work on it. I hope that my story will help other people who suffer from aerophobia to feel not alone and find the strength to overcome their fears! 💪😸
