The people who urged me to be great and implied massive disappointment if I didn't, were themselves mediocre normies at a podunk primary school. They worked in the public sector for Christ's sake. In my fourth grade gifted kids class, some business dude came one day to inspire us. In the end, with the air of a guidance councillor being real with a burnout to get them off the Doritos and weed life path, he told us that mediocrity was a sin. That settling for anything below fully achieving our full potential (according to the values of our capitalist society, of course) was dishonorable. I dunno when I'm going to get these matrix Brainworms out of my head, but I have to keep drilling.
